At HOME, we transform vacant land into vibrant spaces that benefit both the community and the environment. Our current project involves turning unused land in South Dekalb neighborhoods into a community gardens, organic food forest, and educational spaces. This initiative addresses food insecurity in the South Dekalb area, which is classified as a food desert.
Through our key programs, we aim to:
- Provide Fresh Food: We grow organic fruits and vegetables for local schools and the surrounding community, offering affordable access to nutritious food.
- Educate and Engage: Our Farm-to-School program teaches students about sustainable agriculture through hands-on experience in growing, harvesting, and eating their own food.
- Promote Environmental Sustainability: Through workshops and educational programs, we teach the community about organic farming, land stewardship, and sustainability.
- Youth Employment and Skill Development: We create jobs for young people in urban farming, offering workforce training and development in a growing sector.
